Ilaw Editions
ILAW as defined in Tagalog, the Philippines' national dialect, means light. It is in this context that the newsletter was named after which aims to inform and to shed light.
ILAW is the newsletter of the Victoria Filipino-Canadian Association. Published at least three times a year, it is our goal to keep the Filipino-Canadian community updated on what is happening in and around the community.
Victoria Filipino Canadian Association – “Ilaw Magazine”
The Victoria Filipino Canadian Association (VFCA) has long been a cornerstone of the Filipino community in British Columbia. One of its most celebrated contributions is Ilaw Magazine, a cultural publication whose name means “light” in Filipino. True to its name, Ilaw shines a spotlight on the lives, achievements, and stories of Filipino Canadians in Victoria and beyond.
Since its inception, Ilaw Magazine has served as a vital platform for community engagement, cultural preservation, and intergenerational dialogue. The magazine features a range of content—from personal stories and historical reflections to current events and cultural insights. Its pages are filled with voices that reflect the diversity, resilience, and creativity of the Filipino Canadian experience.
Published by a dedicated team of volunteers and community members, Ilaw not only informs but also inspires. It bridges the gap between generations and fosters a sense of belonging for both new immigrants and long-established Filipino Canadians. Through storytelling, it celebrates identity, honors heritage, and promotes unity.
As the VFCA continues to grow, Ilaw Magazine remains a symbol of cultural pride and community spirit—lighting the way for future generations of Filipino Canadians in Victoria and throughout Canada.
